Aviation is an essential part of the transportation system that focuses on the development of aircraft from raw materials to the finished product in the form of a plane that can fly in the air (Sabatini, Moore, & Ramasamy, 2017). The field of aviation has undergone various developments which have brought significant changes in the field. Although this mode of transportation was considered risky, it has developed to become one of the safest and fastest channels of transportation. This development can be attributed to the development of navigation which has made the field of aviation more efficient.

Improved production of aircraft began during World War 1 and continued to grow with the intervention of the government for highly developed aircraft. This encouraged the development of improved powerful motors which made it easier to develop larger and faster plains. After World War 1, there have been continuous innovations in the field of aviation which have facilitated the development of large planes that are safe for passengers. Aviation safety has also increased which has reduced the loss of life, human injury, and environmental damage through the use of proactive Safety Management Systems (SMS). Improvement of technology in the industry has enabled the mitigation of human errors through training, regulation, and improvement of lessons from accidents. This development in aviation has been facilitated by navigation which has made this mode of transport more efficient

The incorporation of navigation in aviation made it safer and faster since it was possible to control planes in the air. This had enabled the development of various industries that develop different navigation devices such as trackers. Security personnel has been incorporated in the aircraft crew who ensure that passengers stay safe from all forms of attack. Navigation has facilitated the expansion of the aviation industry together with technological and security firms. Through navigation, the role of government in aviation was made easy since monitoring of aircraft was done from a central point.

Navigation has made it easy to track terrorist acts and hijacking activities which have reduced in the recent past. Individuals involved in such acts can be traced easily, and justice measures are taken. The availability of safe and secure air transport has made it possible for the government to engage in trade such as the tourism industry (Nebylov & Watson, 2016). However, although the navigation is considered to improve efficiency in aviation, it experiences challenges that are related to the accuracy of piloting and dead reckoning which are considered important forms of navigation. For instance, many aircraft have gone missing and have never been found to date.

It is crucial for the aviation department to set policies that promote accuracy in the invention of navigation methods. Employees in the field of aviation should also embark on training programs. Before any navigation method is incorporated in practice, the aviation department should consider the most accurate and cost-effective to avoid unnecessary costs. It is essential to educate society in order to get their support and grow the industry.

It is therefore evident that navigation has made the field of aviation more efficient. Innovation and the need for improved transportation have facilitated the growth of the aviation industry. However, a lot needs to be done to integrate systems and practices to attain a comprehensive aviation safety system. This may involve the building of in-time aviation safety management systems (IASMS) that detect and mitigate priority issues as they occur before they become tangible hazards. An IASMS could help to assess data, monitor the airspace system, and recommend safety assurance actions where needed (Andrade, 2017).
