PEER POST #1

Amazon

Amazon is an amazing multinational company! The main reason why I love Amazon is because Amazon keeps up with the times! Let’s face it, the world is a constant changing environment. Amazon is a multinational company that focuses on many different things from e-commerce, cloud computing and even artificial intelligence. Amazon was founded on July 5th of 1994 which makes it 24 years old. Even though Amazon is 24 years old this company doesn’t just want to be part of the market but seems to want to become the market itself. How do the changing technology and the falling barriers to trade and investment reflect the success of this company? Even though the many changes to technology and the falling barriers to trade and investment Amazon stays on top of things.

How does the company show corporate social responsibility in terms of labor conditions, human rights, fair trade, and the environment? “Amazon is strongly committed to conducting its business in a lawful and ethical manner, including engaging with suppliers that are committed to the same principles.” (Supply Chain Standards). With these standards set in mind the expectations for suppliers on their goods and services are set to very high expectations. To ensure that Amazon’s polices are up to code they make sure that their programs incorporate international recognition of human rights standards by making sure that their designs and operations continually improve with the constant changes. “Our suppliers must engage workers whose age is the greater of: (i) 15, (ii) the age of completion of compulsory education, or (iii) the minimum age to work in the country where work is performed.” (Supply Chain Standards).

What actions can a multinational corporation take that would make globalization a positive development for the global economy? Multinational corporations like Amazon for example, can have many different positive impacts. Amazon has a large impact on the worlds economy as they increase the import and export of any good or service, capital and even technology. This helps the world create a marketplace that shrinks the gap between wealthy and not so wealthy countries. Because of amazon it is much easier to be able to ship goods all over the world. There are many pros and cons when it comes to globalization. The pros are improving the global economy, expanding knowledge of foreign cultures, decisions for the world not the country, free trade makes a happy economy, and movement of labor. The cons are not good for the underdogs, makes the rich even richer, the labor drain, and a loss of cultures. (9 Huge Globalization Pros and Cons).

PEER RESPONSE #2

ASHLEY-

  • How do the changing technology and the falling barriers to trade and investment reflect the success of this company?
    • McDonalds being the worlds largest restaurant chain, it has to constantly go through change and overcome barriers to be successful. When it comes to technology, McDonalds must keep up with the change. Self-serve kiosks have become a main source of technology because it has become a source of order taking. The usage of technology is important even to make burgers because the time of the grill affects how fast a burger can cook to be able to give to a customer. There has also been door delivery service and mobile order pay that has been activated this last year. They are much easier to order, and the orders get sent to the restaurant much faster than having to stand in a line.
  • How does the company show corporate social responsibility in terms of labor conditions, human rights, fair trade, and the environment?
    • McDonalds makes corporate social responsibility a high priority. They work with their suppliers to make sure their social responsibility to treat their employees. McDonalds strives to be fair and respect all sides of the counter around each McDonalds around the world. When it comes to the environment, they strive to make the best restaurants for all employees and suppliers that work with this company.
  • What actions can a multinational corporation take that would make globalization a positive development for the global economy?
    • Being a multinational corporation, having over 37 thousand restaurants all over the world, they have to make sure the suppliers, and everyone involved in the company are happy working within the company and the name McDonalds is a positive development. In order to make a positive development, McDonalds also has to comply with the different cultures. The cultures make a big difference in globalization because it will keep their own people happy because they can see the importance of their people and what their beliefs are.
